OSTERMANN Edgings for a Perfect Bondline

OSTERMANN Edgings for a Perfect Bondline

With the TPU zero bondline edging, OSTERMANN is offering the carpenter/cabinet maker a solution for high end furniture design. The edgings are available in different versions, particularly made for the respective processing with modern laser, hot air or near infrared radiation (NIR) technology.

Teaser TPU Nullfuge

With laser technology, modern hot air units or the near infrared radiation (NIR), you can now produce furniture elements with a nearly invisible transition from the board surface to the edging. This is referred to as a so-called "optical zero joint”. Furniture elements with an "optical zero joint" do not only impress in their outer appearance, but also with their excellent quality. The connection between the board and the edging is significantly more resistant to moisture, heat and dirt than EVA hotmelt adhesive bond that was considered standard a few years ago.

Advantages of TPU Zero Bondline Edgings

  • extremely hard joint and invisible bondline
  • optimum processing and perfect joint quality
  • excellent properties for extended use
  • extremely strong bond
  • high water and heat resistance
  • ABS plain and decor edgings and real wood edgings for processing with modern zero bondline technologies
  • available from 1 roll (ABS roll 1 mm: 225 m, ABS roll 2 mm: 150 m)
  • in any width from 16 to 60 mm
  • ready for dispatch in 4 working days

The functional layer of the edging is made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), i.e. of 100 % plastic. This leads to a hard, yet permanently elastic joint with a strong bond. The functional layer cures quickly, which prevents smearing at the units during post-processing, even at high feed speeds. The bondline does not shrink when drying out. Due to the hardness of the functional layer the joint will not deteriorate over the longer term. This leads to excellent properties for the extended use of the finished workpiece. Numerous in-house tests have shown the high water resistance. Moreover, a heat resistance of up to 150° C is achieved.

TPU for different machine technologies

With the laser, the Airtec and the Infratec edging, OSTERMANN has consciously decided to develop its own solution for every edge processing technology. This has the advantage that for each of the 3 "invisible bondlines" the development of the respective technologies can be optimised and adjusted according to the requirements of customers. OSTERMANN customers can be sure that even with new processing technologies, the edging specialist and pioneer will always provide the right edging.

The OSTERMANN laser edging was specifically matched to the requirements of modern laser technology. The laser edging was tried and tested on various machines from different manufacturers. Therefore the numerous OSTERMANN experts from Product Development, Product Management and Internal and External Sales can answer all the fundamental questions about the laser technology.

The OSTERMANN Airtec edging is specifically matched to the requirements of modern hot air technology. The functional coating of the Airtec edging can only be activated by hot air. Other processing methods are not permitted. The Airtec edging was tried and tested on various machines from different manufacturers. Therefore the numerous OSTERMANN experts from Product Management and Internal and External Sales can answer all the fundamental questions about the new hot air technology.

The OSTERMANN Infratec edging is specifically matched to the requirements of Near Infrared (NIR) technology. This functional layer can only be activated via infrared technology. It is not permitted to use laser. The infrared edging tried and tested. Therefore the numerous OSTERMANN experts from Product Development, Product Management and Internal and External Sales can answer all the fundamental questions about the infrared technology.
