LED Furniture Luminaires: Good to Know

Light

Lighting has become an indispensable part of modern furniture design. For an artful presentation of furniture and rooms with light, we supply an extensive programme of LED solutions with matching, comfortable operating concepts. This is where we have gathered for you the most common questions on the subject:

  • What Do You Need to Consider Regarding Heat Development?

The light emission of LEDs also generates a certain amount of heat. In contrast to other technologies, it is so low that it has hardly any influence on the environment. However, heat build-up can reduce the service life of LEDs. Luminaires with LEDs are built in such a way that heat is dissipated when used as intended. When using powerful LED strips, the substrate must be able to dissipate some of the heat. We therefore recommend the use of aluminium lighting profiles, which serve as heat sinks for the strip.

  • Replacing LED Light Bulbs

LED light bulb replacement is not provided. LED modules and LED lights contain electronic components and they fall within the regulations of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG/WEEE). LEDs must therefore not be disposed of in the residual waste. They can be disposed of free of charge at appropriate collection points and thus fed into the recycling process.

  • How to Clean LED Lights?

Please only clean your light in OFF state. The care is limited to surfaces, e.g. acrylic glass and covers. Ensure that no moisture enters the terminal boxes or electrical parts.

  • Can LED Lights Harm the Eyes?

LED lighting systems can produce very intense beam that can possibly damage the eyes if used improperly. Therefore, never look directly into the light from a short distance.

  • Are LED Lights Dimmable?

S-MitterIn principle, any LED light can be dimmed. There are luminaires with integrated switching units, though, for which additional dimming would not make any sense. You will find corresponding information on dimming among the technical details for the respective product. For low voltage dimming (12V), which is standard for lighting in furniture, you can use smart home control, a remote control, or a manual switch. In the high-voltage range of 230V, the dimming takes place via the home control system. Here you use electronic ballasts with a preconnected trailing-edge dimmer.

  • Does the Dimming Level Remain even if the LED is Switched Off?

All switches in our range "remember" their state when the power was switched off. This means, for example, for the S-Mitter that the previously set dimming level remains available after disconnection from the mains.

  • Is it possible to Overload a Ballast?

Yes. Make sure that the ballast is not overloaded with the number of lights connected to it.

  • What if the LED Lights Flash?

Flashing lights are a sign that the electronic ballasts might be overloaded or underloaded. This can be caused by an unsuitable number of LEDs due to excessively long cable connections or by a partial short-circuit (e.g. due to a pinched cable).

  • Can I Extend LED Supply Cables Indefinitely?

LED Supply CablesAn indefinite extension of supply cables is not possible. On the one hand, the electronics can be disturbed (unwanted electromagnetic compatibility effects can occur). On the other hand, electronic ballasts can be overloaded or the light output of the luminaire can be significantly reduced.

  • Which Supply Cable do I Need for Lights Based on 12 VDC ?

The lights based on 12 VDC are supplied with a mini LED plug system M1 and may be generally extended by 2 extension leads of 1.8 m each in addition to the supply lead fitted as standard.

  • Which Supply Cable do I Need for Lights Based on 24 VDC ?

There are also suitable extensions for the lights based on 24 VDC. They are supplied with a Multi-Plug system MP2 and may be generally extended by 2 extension leads of 1.8 m each in addition to the line assembled as standard.

  • What Causes Malfunctions or a Varying Brightness in the LED Strips?

One reason could be that the sections are not connected correctly. When you join LED strips together, you must ensure that the connectors are in the right place and with the correct polarity.

  • What do I have to Pay Attention to when Using IR (infrared) Switches?

When using IR sensors, such as in combination with the MultiSwitch or the integrated sensor of InnoLine, make sure that the infrared beam is reflected cleanly to the receiver. High gloss but also too strongly frosted surfaces and incorrect mounting distances can lead here to errors. Please use the reflector stickers supplied.

  • What Causes Malfunctions or a Varying Brightness in the VERSA LED Strips?

When you join any sections of the Versa Inside together, you must ensure that the connectors are in the right place and with the correct polarity.
